Shikshak (shikshak.co.uk and the Shikshak app) is run by Spice Club Hospitality Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales [company number: 11274167], at Harpal House, 14 Holyhead Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, B21 0LT.
We are the "controller" of your personal data, which means we decide how it's used and we're responsible for looking after it. We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If you have any questions about your data, email monica@shikshak.co.uk.
Account details. Your name, email address and password when you create an account. We use these to set up and run your account, give you access to recipes, classes and the community, and send you account and service emails. Lawful basis: contract (we need it to provide what you signed up for).
Billing details. Your country, postcode and payment information. We use these to take payments and manage your subscription or purchase. Card details are handled by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card number. Lawful basis: contract, and legal obligation (keeping financial records).

What you share with us. Posts and comments in the community, and photos you send us. We use these to run the community. We'll always ask before featuring your photo or words in our marketing. Lawful basis: contract; consent for marketing use.
How you use Shikshak. Pages visited, videos watched, emails opened, device and browser type, and approximate location. We use this to keep the service working, understand what's useful, and improve it. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Feedback and messages. Survey answers, feedback and messages you send us. We use these to reply to you and improve Shikshak. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
The service is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account.
If you sign up for our free recipes or newsletter, we'll send you recipes, cooking tips, news about classes and offers. We do this with your consent, which you give when you sign up.
If you're a customer, we may also email you about similar Shikshak classes, memberships and offers. You can opt out when you sign up and in every email we send.
Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops marketing emails only. You'll still get important emails about your account, payments and any purchase.
We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, which are run by Meta. To do this well, we may:
Use customer lists. We may upload the email addresses and names of people who have opted in to our marketing, so we can avoid showing them adverts for things they already have, and so Meta can help us reach new people with similar interests ("lookalike audiences"). Your details are encrypted ("hashed") on your device before being sent, Meta uses them only to match and then deletes them, and they can't be used by Meta for anything else.
Use the Meta Pixel. This is a small piece of code on our website that tells Meta when someone visits or signs up after seeing one of our adverts. It helps us measure whether our adverts work and show them to people who are interested. The Pixel only runs if you accept advertising cookies.
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in promoting Shikshak, and your consent for cookies. You can object at any time by emailing monica@shikshak.co.uk, and we'll remove you from any lists we share. You can also change your advert settings directly with Meta.
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:
Essential cookies to log you in, remember your settings and take payments. The site won't work without these.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to understand how people use the site, so we can improve it.
Advertising cookies (the Meta Pixel) to measure our adverts, as described above.
We only use analytics and advertising cookies if you agree to them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time [via the cookie settings link in our website footer].
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted companies that help us run Shikshak, and only what they need to do their job:
Uscreen: hosts our website, videos, app and member accounts
Stripe: takes card payments
Drip: sends our emails
Zapier: connects our systems, for example to send gift voucher codes
Google (Analytics and Workspace): website analytics, and our business email and documents
Meta (Facebook and Instagram): advertising, as described in section 4
Royal Mail [and any courier we use]: delivering anything we post to you
Our accountant: keeping our financial records
We may also share data if the law requires it, or if the business is sold or merged, in which case your data would move to the new owner under the same protections.
Some of these companies store data in the United States or the EU. Where that happens, they protect it with safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK-US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
Account data: while your account is open, and for up to 30 days after you delete it.
Payment and order records: 6 years, because HMRC requires it.
Marketing data: until you unsubscribe or object.
Customer lists shared with Meta: Meta deletes the encrypted details once it has matched them. We refresh our lists regularly so anyone who unsubscribes or objects is taken off.
You have the right to:
See the personal data we hold about you
Correct anything that's wrong
Delete your data, where we don't need to keep it
Object to us using your data for marketing or advertising, at any time
Restrict how we use your data in some circumstances
Take your data with you to another service
Withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as for marketing emails or cookies
To use any of these rights, email monica@shikshak.co.uk. We'll reply within one month. You can also update your details yourself by logging in and going to Settings.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first and we'll put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
We'll update this policy when the way we use data changes. If the change is significant, we'll email you. Last updated: [DATE].
